Boy, do I have a solution for you!
Here is a post about space saving solutions, not to mention a new perch for my pup Stevie to watch all the cars, people, cats and dogs in the neighborhood. But on a more serious note, we now have more room for our children, because lets face it, kids take up a lot of space!
So for the longest time we had no where to put our; coffee, cell phones, remote controls, controllers, or anything else we didn’t want the kids or the dog to get at. And our main concern of course was the beverages, hot or cold, being out of the reach of our children and not getting bumped or spilled on the kiddos or ourselves. So what do you do?…
Solution 101: Build a couch console!
I had to plan out how to build it, what materials I wanted, and what look/color I was going for.
I of course went to Pinterest for ideas and in the end kind of did my own thing.
I measured our couch’s length and height and had that as my overall dimensions. I also wanted the console to be deep enough and sturdy enough to hold a coffee (my dog…) or what not with out being crowded with only the one item. Size is 81.5″ wide, 34: tall, and 10.5″ deep.
I decided to stain the entire base and then cut some 3.5″ x 1″ select prime boards for the top. Some short, long, medium, and angled. I initially was going to paint them all different colors that I had pulled from a painting in our living room but after I had stained the pieces that are missing from the below pic and replaced them, I really liked the look. In the end I decided to paint the raw pieces the golden yellow color.

After it was all stained I proceeded to paint the non-stained pieces. Just a tip… make sure if you do a couch console or any kind of table like this, take a photo so you have a reference guide when you are putting the pieces back into their spots.
